Madeline and Steven came my way after being the lucky winners of an Instagram contest I had done. After talking with Madeline for the first time, I was feeling lucky that our paths crossed. These two have such a unique story and really made such an effort to include personal touches on their wedding day to make it feel like a true reflection of their love. This Los Angeles Millwick wedding was chock full of greenery, personal touches, and modern wedding inspiration.
Madeline and Steven had been together almost 12 years before their wedding. The connection and bond was not only apparent in the couple, but with their friends as well. I had never seen such a close knit bridal party where everyone was so invested in the couple and full of emotion. The couple had said how they wanted the day to not only be a celebration for them, but for all of the people that have supported them through the years. Cue the tissue box!
The modern wedding ceremony was held in the Millwick courtyard which is covered in beautiful greenery resembling a tropical destination rather than a DTLA wedding venue. Florals and greens from Foxtail Florals lined the ceremony aisle for a fresh modern wedding look.
A favorite moment was during the ceremony when Steven shared an exercise with guests that the couple does to help stay present. He held up his hand and explained to look at your hand, the space around it, and take in the moment. Wedding guests followed and it made for a truly present and personal moment for everyone there. The couple also involved guests by passing around their ring box during a ceremony reading and asked guests to put their well wishes into the rings as they passed through their hands. This was such a fun and sweet way to incorporate wedding guests into the ceremony!
The wedding ceremony ended with the couple taking a selfie with a polaroid camera that they would seal in an envelope and open on their first wedding anniversary.
As Madeline and Steven exited the ceremony and I was directing the wedding party, when we all heard a loud “WE’RE MARRIED!” come from inside. I quickly turned and saw this sweet moment of the couple soaking in those first few minutes as husband and wife. This was followed by many hugs and tears from the entire wedding party. Time to hug it out!
It was perfect fall weather for this southern California wedding. The sunset was gorgeous and Jes Workman beautifully captured these evening portraits of the newlyweds.
Millwick Wedding Reception
What I love about Millwick aside from the amazing staff, is how gorgeous the venue is on its own. It does not need a ton of added decor to make a beautiful setting for an event. It really feels like a hidden oasis tucked in downtown Los Angeles. Foxtail florals created modern centerpieces with tropical greens and pretty blooms. Tables were aglow with candles and a disco ball was primed for dancing overhead. I love the modern wedding decor that all together was so unique and personal to the couple.
The evening was full of more tears, lots of laughs, and a very exciting garter toss! I remember all of the guests were on the dance floor the whole night. This was definitely a group that was here to celebrate by dominating the dance floor!
When planning a wedding, I love including lots of personal touches or traditions that make the wedding really feel like the couple. Madeline and Steven did such a wonderful job with this and making their wedding day a true reflection of their love and relationship. Congratulations to Madeline and Steven!
