When Prianca and Cameron began planning their wedding, they knew they wanted the day to feel like a true reflection of both of them: a traditional South Indian Hindu ceremony paired with a more Western-style cocktail hour and reception, all within one celebration. Read on for all the colorful details of this SoCal South Indian wedding.
The result was a vibrant, design-forward wedding at Franciscan Gardens that blended Indian tradition with a modern California sensibility — full of saturated color, meaningful family details, and plenty of personality.
From Fourth Grade to Their Wedding Day
Prianca and Cameron’s story began long before wedding planning. They first met in fourth grade and even dated for one week in sixth grade. Life eventually took them in different directions, but they remained in the same circles over the years.
Thirteen years later, they reconnected during a friends’ trip to Mexico on New Year’s, and this time, the timing was right.

A SoCal South Indian Wedding Ceremony
With Prianca being Indian and Cameron being British/Pakistani, the couple knew from the beginning that their wedding would be a fusion of cultures.
They wanted to honor Prianca’s South Indian and Hindu traditions while creating a reception experience that felt more aligned with a Western wedding — and importantly, they wanted to accomplish both within a single day.
That balance became the foundation for the entire celebration: traditional where it mattered, modern where it felt like them, and colorful and funky throughout.

Bright, Bold & Intentionally Minimal
Prianca knew she wanted color from the start.
As an OBGYN resident, her everyday uniform consists of faded green scrubs and no nail polish, but outside of work, she has a serious love for bright color. As we worked through different design directions, it quickly became clear that saturated color and funky details were going to play a major role.
The final design leaned into a modern, colorblock approach, allowing each color to have its own moment. Marigold and fuchsia brought in the rich color associated with Indian weddings, while lavender and chartreuse added a more unexpected, contemporary edge.
The goal wasn’t maximalism. Instead of covering the mandap in flowers or filling every table with oversized arrangements, we focused on fewer, more intentional design moments.
The result was colorful, playful, and a little unexpected — without feeling overwhelming.
A Venue That Could Adapt
Franciscan Gardens was an easy fit for the couple’s vision. Its courtyard offered the ethereal outdoor setting they were looking for, surrounded by greenery, a central fountain, and a beautiful pergola.
The venue also offered something that became especially important as the wedding day approached: flexibility.
Rain was in the forecast during the week leading up to the wedding, meaning the original outdoor dinner plan needed to change. Rather than allowing the weather to derail the design, we shifted dinner into the ballroom, using its beautiful brick walls as the backdrop for the reception.
And honestly? It worked beautifully.
The couple later shared that the hardest part of the rain contingency was simply letting go of the original plan. But after talking through the options together, they trusted that the new plan could still feel like their wedding.

Meaningful Details, With a Modern Twist
One of my favorite details was the welcome table, which perfectly captured the balance we were trying to create throughout the day.
At the center was a bronze Ganesha statue from Prianca’s family home, beautifully draped in marigolds — a flower deeply connected to Indian weddings and an especially meaningful nod to her family and heritage.
Surrounding it were modern, squiggly colorful frames filled with photographs of Prianca and Cameron, their families, childhood photos, and vintage photographs of their grandparents.
It was traditional and modern at the same time, personal without feeling overly formal, and exactly the kind of detail that made the wedding feel like theirs.
Planning From Northern California
Because Prianca and Cameron live in Northern California, planning a Southern California wedding meant finding a planner who could work comfortably and effectively from a distance.
They also considered whether they should hire someone who regularly plans South Asian weddings. Ultimately, they decided that a planner with a Western wedding background made more sense for what they were trying to create: the structure and flow of a one-day Western wedding, layered with intentional South Asian traditions and details.
When Prianca first reached out, she was looking for a planner whose work felt colorful, unique, and design-driven. She wanted a wedding that felt cool and personal rather than traditional for tradition’s sake.
And, perhaps most importantly, she wanted someone who could take all of her ideas — including what she jokingly calls her “color vomit” — and turn them into something cohesive.
That’s exactly where the design process became one of the most fun parts of planning.
Through moodboards, design decks, and mock-ups, we were able to take a lot of individual ideas and bring them together into one cohesive visual direction.

When the Plan Changes
It did.
Of course, even the most thoughtful design can’t control the weather.
The rain meant making a major change just days before the wedding: moving dinner indoors and reworking the flow of the reception.
But this is also where having a planner becomes about more than timelines and vendor logistics. Sometimes the most important part of the job is helping a couple feel confident when the plan changes.
The ballroom ultimately created a beautiful, intimate setting for dinner, and the celebration still felt every bit like the colorful, modern, culturally meaningful wedding Prianca and Cameron had envisioned.
If anything, the unexpected change became part of the story.

A Wedding That Felt Like Them
What made Prianca and Cameron’s SoCal South Indian wedding so memorable wasn’t simply the bright color palette or the beautiful setting. It was the way every element worked together to tell their story.
A childhood connection that eventually brought them back together. Two cultures thoughtfully woven into one celebration. Family heirlooms alongside playful modern details. A traditional ceremony followed by a Western-style reception. And a little rain that forced the plan to change — without changing the feeling of the day.
The result was colorful, personal, and completely their own.
