If you’re like me you might be more aware of how all the things we do from coffee pods to single use bags are impacting the environment. When planning your wedding there are some creative ways your can GO GREEN while still creating a personal and stylish wedding day. Becoming more eco friendly is something that has personally been a goal of mine over the past few years. I’ve made a list of a 5 eco friendly wedding ideas that can help you have more of a planet friendly, green wedding!

1. Eco Confetti

If you’re planning a grand exit, think about going green (literally) with confetti! Traditional confetti might not be allowed at your venue and will ultimately end up swept up and in the garbage. How about using fresh leaves or flowers instead. The organic material is both pretty and won’t take years to decompose.

2. Thrifted Decor

This one might take some extra effort if you are specific on the style of decor you want. Check out second hand wedding groups on facebook or sites like Mercari and OfferUp to find wedding specific decor. There are many decor items that you will purchase just for the sake of the wedding and be done with after. Candles and holders, cake stands and dessert trays, and signage are all things you can source second hand.

3. Consider A Second Hand Dress

I know, I know. Searching for the perfect wedding dress is the fun part right? But you can still enjoy the search through second-hand dresses. I know this is a sentimental one. But really- you do wear your dress for one day. Buying a second-hand wedding dress is a big contribution to an eco friendly wedding, and will be better on your budget too! Check out Rebridal for some beautiful second hand options!

4. Edible Favors

Party favors may be out, but if it’s a treat I can take home, I’m all about it. Even when I got married almost 10 years ago, I was already thinking what is the point of these favors that often end up in the garbage. Do I need a salt and pepper shaker with your name on it? Or a personalized deck of cards? Nope. Send guests home for the night with a sweet treat like cookies or candies. Or go for a late night snack to go to help curb the cocktails your guests have had the past few hours.

5. Gifts With A Purpose

Do you ever think the last thing you need is more stuff? Instead of collecting more things for your wedding, think about having guests make a donation to a charity you believe in. A Good Beginning will help facilitate donations from your guests as a wedding gift to an organization of your choice.

If you are looking for more ways to bring eco friendly practices into your daily routine, I love the podcast Good Together done by the amazing team at Brightly. This podcast and Instagram have been my go to for eco friendly tips that don’t feel overwhelming. Remember, it’s ok to smart small!
